World Urban Forum 3 Vancouver (2006, 30th Anniversary of Habitat I)

Today of third July 2014. I visit to Granville Island in. Cartwright St and I cannot find a plaque let me know where the place at thanks
Perhaps history, sanity and the world would have been better served by keeping this Communications event ongoing. It was a Canadian UN and grass roots project, that finally collapsed notwithstanding some vision, at the hand of short sighted and other sighted city council and personality conflicts?
Why is this image so out of focus? Frank York and I, Lenore Barron executed this Bill Reid mural. Too bad there weren’t better photos of the mural. I have 1000s of images of the building of the site as I documented it photographically every day of the nine months of the building of the site.
My wife had been hired to work at this conference and heard there was to be a healing the earth ceremony performed by the Hopi. On the day of, at dawn, we rode down to Jericho Beach and witnessed an extraordinary event. There were many elders present but it was a young Hopi who was tasked with carrying the staff around the fire while reciting a prayer for healing; the rhythmic cadence, the beauty of Jericho at dawn, the poetry and power of the Hopi prayer and the hope that was in the air still inspire.
I just found this website after mentioning the 1976 Habitat Forum to a friend, and thought I should look to see if there was any mention of it on line. I am happy that it has been remembered!
I was there– a speaker the night of the “Spiritual Forum”. I was able to speak right after Thomas Banyakya gave his presentation of the Hopi prophesy –which he was to deliver the next day to people at the UN Conference. I stepped up to the podium after he had left it and spoke briefly (my time had kept being whittled down by previous presentations) on the revelations of Mokichi Okada, known as “Meishu-sama” (1882 – 1955), regarding the Dawning of the DayLight Age on June 15, 1931, and of the spiritual practice of Johrei (“Purifying the Spirit through Divine Light”)– here to help humanity through the transition. Then Rev. Katsumi Kogure–Head of the Vancouver Johrei Center (then known as Church of World Messianity)–stood and gave Johrei for about five minutes to all in attendance. You could have heard a pin drop. I remember Banyakya and his family stood in a line off to one side, each with a hand raised, palm outward, to receive it. I made a closing remark about how the ripples of Light would spread outward from that evening’s event. Then the Vancouver Turning Society came out and ended the evening. It was a magical night, and I was honored to have been there. It was a privilege as well to have attended each day of the Earth Healing Ceremony, starting at dawn on the beach.
Thank you for this chance to recount my time there..
